Scriptures that shaped me

When I was young (I can’t remember the age but I think I was in grade school) my mom gave me a scripture to memorize, John 3:16.  I don’t remember how long she gave me to memorize it but I had to recite it in front of her after a period of time to prove that I had learned it.

Around that time she also bought me a kids bible study booklet where I could read story passages and certain scriptures.  The booklet also contained a page of scripture cards to cut out so that I could carry them around with me to meditate on.

I cut out the cards and memorized them while I was waiting around (I grew up before kids used all their spare time to play on their phones) and I began to memorize more and more scripture that I used to recite to myself as needed.  My mom also had certain passages posted around the house that I took upon myself to memorize too.  My mom never required me to memorize another scripture; I guess I just took that practice and ran with it.  After a while I really built up my arsenal.

I don’t think memorizing scripture makes me holier than the next person, nor do I think it determines my salvation or how pleased God is with my actions.  I do think it’s a testament of Proverbs 22:6 in training up a child.  To this day I still like studying the bible and learning new things about my faith.

Below are some scriptures that shaped me in my life.  Take a look and may it inspire you (or your children) on your walk.

John 3:16

Proverbs 22:6

Ephesians 6:1

Psalm 119:11

Romans 6:14

Galatians 5:22-23

2 Corinthians 5:17

Be blessed loves,

Maya
